All NCC Youth

April 7th, 2018

We don't believe fun and Jesus are at odds. In fact, at NCC Youth we confidently say "we party harder!" We're pretty sure there isn't another group having more fun than us! And with that said...we are bringing back SILENT DISCO!

All NCC Youth locations are coming together for what may historically redefine the word "lit" as we know it. Take note, this Jesus party is going down on SATURDAY, April 7th from 6-9pm @ CapCity Church in Alexandria.

Why should I send my child to mission camp?
Students will find at mission camp the best of two worlds—the fun of summer camp fused with the heart of a mission trip. At Mission Camp, something happens in students. The Bible goes from being talked about and heard to experienced and applied. We hear a passage like Micah 6:8, "What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with your God," and then we go out and do just that! Students experience and see how they can end injustice in their city, extend mercy in their community and walk with God along the way. This generation is itching to make a difference, Mission Camp teaches them how.

"Our son is always quite excited about the ending of the school year. He welcomes the respite that summer brings from the structure of school and schedules, the fun of family vacations, etc. BUT, it is truly the annual summer Mission Camp that he most anticipates. He has had some of his biggest spiritual breakthroughs, inspirations, and experiences, during Mission Camp. At Mission Camp he joyfully looks forward to serving others, learning about the needs of people within our community, and learning how he can be the hands and feet of God to make a difference." - Carla Morrison Tapera

"I believe Uprising Youth's Mission Camp was the springboard where it all began for my children. Prior to Mission Camp, I had told my kids they needed to attend six Uprising Youth gatherings and Mission Camp. They both despised me in that moment. Reluctantly they went but came back transformed. They were hooked. Between the crazy fun and depth of purpose they came back with a more earnest faith and desire to serve others." - Mary Miller

Why are we doing a mission-focused summer camp?
We want students to see that being on mission begins every day in their own city. When we realize that we can experience Jesus in our own backyard, it awakens within us a new awareness to God’s presence daily. God is no longer seen as exclusive to a certain set of dates each summer or to a certain childhood camp.

Daily students will experience a different dimension of need in our city. Students will serve with local food pantries, refugee care organizations, shelters serving those in our community who are experiencing homelessness and other A:18 partnership organizations. One day of camp will be committed to joining God on global mission as we take a 30,000 ft view of injustice around the world. Mission Camp is a high concentration of community, purpose, discipleship and fun!

Additionally, finding a summer camp under $300 for a week is almost impossible! Doing camp locally affords more students the opportunity to attend, as well as encourages students to invite a friend. Students will also receive 50 community service hours towards their high school graduation.

What will students do while at camp?
Daily students will experience a different dimension of need in our city. Students will serve at local food pantries, foster care agencies, homeless shelters and/or other A:18 partnership organizations. One day of the camp will also be committed to seeing injustice around the world. Students will also enjoy nightly rallies, high-energy worship, small group discipleship, and other special camp exclusive elements!

How old does my child have to be to attend?
All incoming 6th grades students to graduating high school seniors are welcome to attend.

What does the cost of the camp cover?
The cost of the camp covers just about everything: 14 meals, lodging, transportation, all activities, retreat keepsakes and mission project supplies.

What is the cut-off date for camp registration?
The cut-off date is Friday, June 8th, so be sure to sign-up fast!

Are there any camp discounts?
The earlier you register, the greater the discount you get for registration. Also, we would hate for finances to discourage any student from attending. If your family would benefit from a partial scholarship, please contact Pastor Steffen at Students who invite a friend are eligible to get half off the price of their camp cost or their invited friend’s cost! Note, friends cannot be a relative or a friend who already comes to Uprising Youth Ministry.

What are the sleeping arrangements at camp?
Each student should bring a sleeping bag, air mattress or cot. Students will be assigned to their lodging according to their age and gender.

Can my child partially attend camp?
If you or your child has a conflicting obligation or maybe your child isn’t too sure about going on a camp for five days, it is possible to stay a few days or go home each night. Please contact Pastor Steffen at for additional details.

Can my child pick who they want to room with?
Students cannot pick who they want in their room. You can imagine trying to accommodate everyone according to his or her rooming preference becomes exceptionally difficult. At the same time, we try our best to organize the sleep arrangements according to who we know will want to room together. The only exception is if a student brings a friend who does not attend Uprising. We will be sure to accommodate them in their rooming preference.

How will my child be transported during camp?
Currently we will either be taking an old-fashioned yellow school bus or 15 passenger vans. All vehicles will only be driven by NCC approved volunteers or professionals.

What will my child eat while away?
Your child will be fed three square meals a day and provided with all necessary nutrition.

How will my child be supervised?
Each student will have an assigned adult small group leader who will be responsible for overseeing their group. All adult leaders have been background checked. In addition, we feel all of our small group leaders have a strong calling to serve students. Our aim is more than just supervision. Our aim is discipleship.

Do you offer refunds if my child is unable to attend?
We can refund 100% before Friday, April 13th and 50% before May 5th. We will not offer any refunds after Friday, May 5th.

How can I see what’s happening while my child is away?
Pastor Steffen will send email updates during mission camp. You can also follow us on Instagram @therealuprisingyouth. You will want to pay close attention to the hashtag #uprisingonmission

My child doesn’t know anyone and is nervous about attending, what can I do?
Going on a camp can be intimidating because your child may not know anyone, or maybe they are unsure and nervous about what camp will be like. I have never seen an environment create community like mission camp! If your child has great friendships at school or on a sporting team, it is likely because they spend lots of time in an environment that naturally grooms those friendships. Camps are a springboard into building lasting and godly relationships in Youth Ministry. It may just be time to jump in! We are proactive in making sure students acclimate well to new environments and set our camp up to foster new friendships. Most often the same students that are nearly dragged to camp are the ones I have to drag home to leave!
